A trip to the Rockies with Target Travel
If you fancy a trip to the Rockies with Target Travel, we would be delighted to put together a tour to suit you. We feel it’s important that the scenery gets better as you move through the trip, ending on a high. To ensure this is the case, most of our clients start in Vancouver and take two days to drive up into the Rockies, stopping at Kamloops and aiming for Jasper. Most of those on a trip to the Rockies with Target Travel do this by car.
An alternative is the Rockie Mountaineer train which takes the same time, with an overnight in Kamloops. The train is very slow at times (walking pace) and also requires an overnight in a Kamloop’s hotel, which is included in the cost.
We suggest a few days around Jasper to relax and perhaps see the Columbia Ice Fields. Then travel down the spine of the Rockies to the emerald Lake Louise for a couple of nights. On from here is the town of Banff a good base to explore the mountains and being one of the larger towns, it has a good selection of restaurants and shops. You don’t need to be an avid hill walker to enjoy the scenery, as many of the Rockies ski resort’s lifts are still open in summer. Homeward bound you need to come downhill to Calgary, where there are no-stop flights to the UK. If travelling in July, then it is worth adjusting the itinerary to try and take in The Calgary Stampede.

You can also drive the Sea to Sky Highway and stay in Whistler for a few days, as the weather inland in the summer is usually nice and most hotel resorts have pools. Many of the ski lifts still operate offering the opportunity for downhill treks. Every other seat on most lifts has been converted to carry a mountain bike and this is a hugely popular pass time hurtling downhill.
